I love to get up in the morning to a cup of coffee and about 8 paintings to greet me. They range in sizes (30 X 40 to 60 x 48) and are in various stages of development. Mostly, I don't plan my paintings. I just allow them to guide me to their next step of evolution. I equate my process to the making of wine: it takes ingredients (in my case acrylic paints and canvas), inspiration, fermentation time, creation and re-creation.
It's a constant state of flux, sometimes the one finished painting may have had many previous lives. Does my belief in reincarnation get incorporated into my work? I may have to say yes to that!
In 2004 I was introduced to Oriental Brush Painting. I loved the freedom, the looseness of the brush strokes, the apparent ease of creation and the simplicity of the paintings. It was a few years later when I had a hard time verbally explaining my feelings to a therapist that I created a few acrylic paintings as a visual aide into my state of being. They were dark, painful, full of angst, but they were pivotal to my becoming the artist I am today.
I was hooked on the feeling of creation. The darkness departed.
I wanted to bring into my condo all the outdoor spaces I loved, not with a photograph but a painting which was born in me and through me. I have evolved even from that point, loving all subject matter and styles of painting which I have undertaken.
Currently I have been inspired, by the Hubble Space telescope images, to create my own "spacescape" paintings ( after all I also have a "dreamscape" category, look under figurative work). The act of creating them is this initial explosion, then meditative-contemplative search of the brush stroke to find its' path in the spacescape of the canvas. I observe the painting and wait for my internal guide to energize and lead me to its' completion.
I love the process of creation, evolution, discovery of the ending moment and the appreciation of the finalized work.
I'd say I'm hooked on the feeling (or is that a song).
Painting is as important as drinking water to me. Enjoy!
PLEASE COME BACK AND VISIT. I WILL BE UPDATING MY SITE CONTINUOUSLY.
